At Stephenson Memorial we believe studying The Arts is a vital part of our children’s education.  Our intention is to provide opportunities to develop a range of ways in which they can share and express their individual creativity, whilst learning about and making links with a wide spectrum of different types of art in our society.

The Arts contribute to children’s personal development in creativity, independence, judgement and self reflection. They enable pupils to develop a natural sense of wonder and curiosity about the world around them and therefore links strongly to our school values.

In Art the focus is in developing proficiency in drawing, painting, understanding colour and shade and sculpture, with the overall aim of developing a rigorous understanding, critical awareness and inspiration of art and design. A diverse range of cultural heritages are studied, including the work of male and female artists throughout history.

Our Music curriculum ensures that children sing, listen, play, perform and evaluate. Children learn to dissect music, understanding how it is made, played, appreciated and analysed. They also learn how to compose focussing on different dimensions of music, which in turn feeds their understanding when listening, playing, or analysing music.
